10. Dak Prescott
Being with such a big franchise such as the Dallas Cowboys has helped Dak Prescott squeeze his way into the top 10 of this list as well as his talent under centre. When both himself and running back, Ezekiel Elliot came into the league they were an extremely dominant pair helped along by one of the if not the, best offensive lines in the league. In his first season with the team Dak took the Cowboys all the way to the NFC divisional game beating the Seahawks in the wild card game before coming unstuck against the Packers. Since then, the Cowboys franchise has struggled losing Elliot for 6 games at one point putting extra pressure on Dak whose stats were inconsistent. Then in the 2020 season he suffered a season ending ankle injury just as the Cowboys activated their franchise tag on him. Dak will be returning for the 2021/22 season with a point to prove and several formidable weapons on offense, the Cowboys’ biggest fault now is with their coach Mike McCarthy. Like Jason Garrett before him he is seen as a yes man to the Owner Jerry Jones as rather sitting back and allowing the coaches to run the team Jerry always wants control and that reflects in his coach hiring’s, with Jerry upstairs Cowboys fans will never see another hall of fame coach like Jimmy Johnson take the helm again.

9. Kyler Murray
I love how much Kyler Murray proved me wrong in his rookie season. As a fan of the underdog I thought what had happened to Josh Rosen during his time with the Cardinals was inexcusable and he was dealt a rotten hand as he was drafted by the worst team in the league at the time with no outstanding players other than veteran wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald so he was set up to fail. Then in came now head coach Cliff Kingsbury as part of the new fashion of hiring young untested coaches, a trend that started with Sean McVay at the Rams. Kingsbury made it very clear that he intended to take Murray 1st overall in the 2019 draft confirming the end of Rosen’s time in Arizona before being promptly shipped off to Miami. After winning Offensive rookie of the year and a pro bowl selection I think Kingsbury made the right call drafting Murray as the future of the Cardinals franchise. A deadly dual threat QB his short stature only makes it harder for the pass rushers to wrap him up and if we were to compare him to another quarterback it would have to be Russell Wilson easily. With the additions of J.J. Watt and A.J Green in the off-season the Cardinals are building something special as long as those two can stay healthy. With these additions and another season of experience under Murray’s belt I believe that the NFC West will be the strongest division in the NFL with no obvious winner.

8. Matt Ryan
Matty ‘Ice’ Ryan is one of the most underrated QBs in the league currently as his efforts are continuously overshadowed by the failing of his team, the Atlanta Falcons. Since winning league MVP and getting to Super Bowl 51 and being a part of the most spectacular collapse in American sports history the Falcons franchise haven’t been able to shake that worst losers tag from their name. Head coach Dan Quinn was finally given the bullet which was long overdue, and the Falcons also cut ties with receiver Mohammed Sanu and running back Devont’a Freeman, the team did replace Freeman with ex-Rams running back Todd Gurley but an issue with arthritis in his knee has kept the star running back reasonably quiet since the move from LA. In the 2021 draft the Falcons were lucky enough to draft the most athletically gifted player in the draft, Tight End Kyle Pitts and with Julio Jones’ injuries mounting up Pitts will be a great replacement. Matt Ryan is mobile enough to escape pressure and is one of the most accurate throwers in the league and as long as the Falcons give him the receivers, he needs he can definitely lead them back to the play offs.

7. Lamar Jackson
Lamar Jackson has certainly proved all the doubters wrong who believed he should have transitioned into a wide receiver at the 2018 combine. Fast forward one year and Jackson was named 2019 league MVP, first-team all-pro, invited to his first Pro Bowl and led the league in passing touchdowns with 36. Despite all these accolades however, the Ravens have looked anything but a serious play off contended and are still yet to reach a championship game with Lamar under centre and the reason for this is the team’s inconsistency and Lamar has to take some of the blame here. The Ravens have a hall of fame calibre head coach in John Harbaugh, a stacked offense and a young talent offence despite trading young talented offensive tackle Orlando Brown to the Chiefs. Comparing Lamar to Michael Vick wouldn’t be a stretch as he in arguable the quickest QB in the league and certainly has a cannon arm but due to his lack of experience his decision making is still wanting, he has dragged the Ravens to victory through the jaws of defeat and on occasion vice versa but would I sign him for the Patriots if he was available? 100% yes.

6. DeShaun Watson
I was so excited when Deshaun Watson was drafted 12th overall in the 2017 NFL draft by the Houston Texans. Not only because that’s where I predicted he’d land but also because I thought he was going to a very strong organisation and that he would finally fill that missing piece and four years later, 3 Pro Bowl invitations, an invitation to the 2017 all rookie team and becoming the NFL passing yards leader in 2020 with 4,823 yards I could not have been more right and more wrong. Watson has been a fantastic edition to the league lighting it up with incredible rushing and throwing touchdowns alike and producing some great moment against the league’s best teams such as the Patriots and Chiefs and he is certainly another player I would break the bank to sign. So, with all this talent where has it gone so wrong? Well, the Texans should have realised the head coach and self-appointed GM Bill O’Brian was running the team into the ground by believing he was the focal point of the team trading away stars such as Deandre Hopkins and Jadaveon Clowney for next to nothing and replacing them with worse players who actually cost the team more the result of this mismanagement led to internal conflict within the organisation with team captain and Mr. Texas himself J.J. Watt calling his fellow teammates and coach O’Brian to be accountable for the downfall of this once promising franchise. In recent times the Texans have parted way with Bill O’Brian as well as losing future hall of famer J.J. Watt to the Cardinals and now it looks like Watson will be on his way out and if that were to happen, we could be looking at a fourth 0-16 team as without Watson the Texans offer nothing.

5. Josh Allen
I will happily hold up my hand and say I am very surprised by the rise of Josh Allen and Bills since they drafted him 7th overall in the 2018 draft. Not only did they make it back to the play offs but also went all the way to the AFC Championship game losing to the Chiefs who remain the best team currently, in the AFC. The bills also have a very talented head coach in Sean McDermott and of course star wide receiver Steffon Diggs. When he entered the league Josh Allen’s biggest criticism was his accuracy, he’s always had a gun slinging arm and during his rookie season that talk of inaccuracy did come to light but to Allen’s credit he has improved a hell of a lot. Unlike most of the young QBs lower than him in this list he hasn’t won an MVP or an offensive rookie of the season or invited to a rookie first team all pro but following the 2020 season he did earn his first Pro Bowl call up. My main reason though for ranking him at 5 is because even though the Bills are now a very dependable team that hasn’t always been the case so taking them all the way to the AFC Championship in just his 3rd season is an incredible achievement when a more athletic QB like Lamar Jackson who plays for arguably a better organisation in the Baltimore Ravens hasn’t even come close to achieving that. All Allen has to do now is learn when to slide when he runs, he isn’t the most mobile, but he can run for a first down if need be, but he has a tendency to try and run through defenders rather than slide and protect himself and if he gets injured that a wasted season not just for him but for the Bills team as a whole.

4. Aaron Rodgers
Following the 2020 season Aaron Rodgers picked up his third league MVP award and his 9th Pro Bowl selection but once again the Packers came up short in the post season. The Super Bowl 45 champion and MVP has built up a long list of accolades during his 15 seasons in the league such as NFL passer rating leader 3 times, NFL passing touchdowns leader twice and NFL completion percentage leader in 2020. He was also inducted into the NFL 2010’s all-decade team and was the Associated Press Athlete of the Year in 2011there really isn’t much this guy hasn’t won and that doesn’t include his NFL records as well which include:
· Most consecutive seasons with a passer rating of over 100.0, with 6 (2009–2014)
· 5th highest postseason passer rating (99.4)
· First player in NFL history to pass for over 4,000 yards in each of the first two seasons as a starting QB
· First player to have 4:1 Touchdown to Interception Ratio
· First player to have a career passer rating over 100.0
· Most seasons with 35+ touchdown passes (5) (tied)
· Only quarterback to throw for 300 touchdowns before throwing 100 interceptions
· Only quarterback to throw for 400 touchdowns before throwing 100 interceptions
· Most consecutive pass attempts without an interception (402)
· Most consecutive touchdown passes at home without an interception, (including playoffs) (49)
· Most consecutive pass attempts without a pick six (4,502) November 8, 2009 – September 24, 2017
· Fewest pick sixes per attempts (two pick-sixes: 5,905 attempts)
· Most consecutive passes without an interception at home, (including playoffs) (587)
· One of only seven quarterbacks (Kurt Warner, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Joe Flacco, Dan Marino, and Tom Brady) to pass for over 1,000 yards in a single postseason
Of course, Rodgers has many more records, but I can’t include them all here. So why 4th and not in the top 3? Well for a player of such talent Rodgers has only mad it to one Super Bowl and has lost 2 NFC championship games since then. Also, every season appears to be his last at Green Bay there are always rumours that he isn’t happy with the team and Rodgers himself seems to be the one adding fuel to this fire but as usual he returns to the team and leads them to the off season where the team comes up short against the NFC representative at that year’s Super Bowl.

3. Russell Wilson
Russell Wilson like Aaron Rodgers seems to be leaving his team during every post season since the dismantling of the Legion of boom starting way back in 2015. That formidable Seahawks defence paired with Wilson’s ability to make any throw to his very dependable receiving core including names such as Jermaine Kearse and Tyler Lockett as well as Marshawn ‘Beast-Mode’ Lynch in the backfield who created a literal earthquake in a play off game against the saints made the Seahawks the next potential dynasty and that seemed all but confirmed when they entered Super bowl 48 against the Peyton Manning led Denver Broncos as heavy under dogs however, the final score couldn’t not have portrayed a more different story with the Seahawks decimating the Broncos 43-8. However, the following season the Seahawks were not able to make it 2 out of 2 as they were defeated by the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 49, this led to the decimation of the would-be dynasty as the young defence all came to the end of their contracts resulting in Wilson having to carry this team alone for a few seasons. With his excellent mobility and ability to avoid the rush and the ability to make almost any throw Wilson kept the Seahawks a post season regular despite having to run for his life nearly every game due to a non-existent offensive line. As for accolades well he has plenty of them to not only is he a Super Bowl champion, but Wilson also has 8 Pro Bowls to his name, was the NFL passer rating leader in 2015 and the touchdown passing leading in 2017 and to top it all of Wilson was named the Walter Peyton NFL Man of the Year in 2020.

2. Tom Brady
Here we are the greatest quarter back of all time, the world has truly run out of superlatives to describe Tom Brady the man is a 7 (SEVEN) time super bowl champion just to put it into context Brady has appeared in 18.2% of all Super Bowls as despite winning he seven he has appeared in a total of 10 championship games so that’s 10/55 Super Bowls. As well as he 7 rings Brady is also a:
· 5-time Super Bowl MVP
· NFL MVP 3 times
· Offensive player of the year twice
· NFL comeback player of the year
· First team all pro first time
· Second team all pro twice
· 14 Pro Bowl selections
· NFL passing yards leader 3 times
· NFL passer rating leader twice
· NFL 2000s all decade team
· NFL 2010s all decade team
· NFL 100th year anniversary all time team
There are many more accolades to mention but there is no way I can get through them all on this list. If you were split Brady’s career in half from 2000-2010 and 2011-2020 he has had 2 hall of fame careers and in 2007 led one of the greatest teams of all time to a perfect regular season record of 16-0 going all the way to the Super Bowl and missing out on the perfect season with a defeat to the New York Giants. Brady has also thrown to more receivers than any other quarter back and has only ever had 2 certified hall of fame targets, Randy Moss and Rob Gronkowski. Of course, the most amazing thing about Brady is that he was pick 199 in the 6th round of the draft. To give context there are 7 rounds in the draft and 257 total picks so the greatest quarter back of all time unlike so many others on this list was never thought of as a star and has had to earn each win with his talent and competitive will. At 43 he is the oldest QB in the league by far and won the league MVP at age 40, the oldest player to ever do so but despite his age Brady has hinted that 45 is the magic number he is aiming for and with a stacked roster at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers there may be one more ring up for grabs for the 21-year veteran.

1. Patrick Mahomes
Finally, we arrive at the NFL poster boy the undisputed best QB in the league Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes won his first Super Bowl in his sophomore year for the chiefs comfortably beating the Jimmy Garoppalo led San Francisco 49ers in super bowl 54. Mahomes and the Chiefs made it back to the Super Bowl in the 2020/21 season where, through no fault of his own the Chiefs came up short to the Tom Brady led Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Mahomes entered the game not at 100% due to a niggling injury he picked up a few weeks prior to the game but his main receiver Tyreek Hill was made redundant his offensive line did everything but protect their star man and the Chiefs defence struggled through most of the game. Despite this set back the Super 54 Champion, Super Bowl 54 MVP, 2018 League MVP, 2018 NFL offensive player of the year, first team all pro and 3-time pro bowler is still widely considered the top QB in the country and if his accolades and on field ability don’t convince you he recently signed a 10 year contract with the Chiefs worth up to a possible $503 million dollars with bonuses, the second most expensive known sports contract in history. Like many young QBs on this list Mahomes is dual threat QB, equally as dangerous on the ground as he is in the air and his introduction into the league has made the Kansas City Chiefs the most dominant team in the AFC and we can certainly expect them to be in next year’s AFC championship game, the question is which team will they face? Mahomes is young and is one of the most athletically gifted and talented QBs the league has ever seen and as long the Chiefs can protect him there is no doubt he will appear and win many Super Bowls; will he go all the way to 7 like brady? Probably not but I can’t think of another QB who can threaten Brady’s legacy as much as Patrick Mahomes.
